#450 Fondren.

Have you read The Help? If you are a female Mississippian between the ages of 18 and 100, and you still haven’t read it, you really have got to. They recently finished filming parts of the movie in Fondren, which is part of Jackson’s old downtown. They gave the whole area a new coat of paint and vintage-style signage for all the real stores for the movie and I’ve been wanting to visit. After a severe bout of cabin fever, we decided today was the day.

The trolleys still run to Fondren, where all the building are painted fun, bright colors.
I also had a deep and burning desire to go to a real, honest-to-goodness bakery, which they just so happen to have.
Then Ben gave me a driving tour of the residential area nearby, Bellhaven. Somehow I have never in my life seen these parts of Jackson and now I get it. I understand why my Ole Miss classmates who were from Jackson are so proud about being from Jackson. It was really beautiful with pretty 1900s cottages and mansions around every corner.
We even wrangled up Chase and Jennifer for dinner at Sal & Mookie’s Pizzeria!
No matter how long we go without seeing them, it’s always like it was yesterday. Love these people!
