#2,361 Camp Home Town + Movie Night.

This week of filming has felt TOTALLY like summer camp. Where I’m the only girl camper. Just me and a bunch of dudes all day.

It’s always hot and sweaty (with the exception of 5 minute naps between scenes in the AC of Ben’s truck)..

And there are gnats and mosquitos, but there are also snacks and an ice chest full of ginger ale and Coke Zero. Honestly, hanging out with the boys has always been my comfort zone. I’m a little of a tomboy, and I got it from my mama. Today was particularly fun as we spent the entire day just filming scenes hanging out around downtown, going to the farmer’s market (where we bought fresh bread, fresh milk, fresh cheddar cheese, heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and… Rice Krispy Treats), then we wrapped the day around 5:00 and we got to meet Sierra and her husband, Jordan, who came all the way to Laurel to visit from Illinois.

Then we had dinner at The Loft and walked out the backdoor to downtown movie night. And I’ve never seen anything like it. There had to be over 1,000 people there for the movie.

The kids who will grow up going to downtown Laurel every Thursday for the farmer’s market and movies in the park will remember these nights and believe it was always this way. They won’t remember when the streets were dead and the buildings were empty. This will be what their childhood summers look like in their mind’s eye when they’re grown up, and this is the home they’ll know… And I’m a little jealous. It takes a village to make it happen. Everything started changing long before there were TV cameras here to capture it which is proof that if a bunch of regular folks work together and don’t give up, they can love a town back to life.

P.S.

I can’t stop listening to this. Over and over. SO GOOD.
