The Wood That Turns Purple

Every piece of wood has a story, but every now and then you come across one that stops you in your tracks. That’s what happens the first time you see Purple Heart. At first glance, most people think it must be stained or dyed but the color is completely natural. Deep, rich purple, straight from the tree itself.

Purple heart comes from the tropical forests of Central America and South America, where trees in the Peltogyne family grow tall and strong among some of the most diverse forests in the world. When the wood is first cut, it actually looks more grayish-brown than purple. But something amazing happens when it meets the air and sunlight. Over time, the wood slowly transforms, deepening into that beautiful royal purple color that makes it so unforgettable.

It feels a little like a quiet kind of magic, nature revealing something hidden all along.

Beyond its color, purple heart is known for its incredible strength and durability. It’s a hardwood that stands the test of time, often used in fine furniture, musical instruments, and specialty woodworking. It’s dense, resilient, and remarkably beautiful all at once. We have loved getting to explore with this wood over the years, here are some of our most popular products here.

But what we love most about purple heart isn’t just how rare it is, it’s what it reminds us of. That sometimes the most remarkable things in the world don’t look extraordinary at first. Sometimes they need a little time, a little light, and a little patience to become what they were meant to be.

And when they do, they’re unforgettable.
