#1,355 28.

Today I turned 28 years old. It really doesn’t feel possible that I’ll be 30 in just 2 more years. I’m honestly surprised by how melancholy I’ve felt about that today. I would like to be honest and tell you that. That I’m not thrilled about it. But I am so thankful for Ben and my family who made me feel special even though I’m a little down in the dumps about it.

First of all, Ole Miss beat Vandy in the best nailbiter I’ve ever seen, and it was after midnight so that counts as a win on my birthday. Ben wore his favorite t-shirt, so that’s obviously why we won.

After a sunshiney walk with the pups:

I found birthday happies waiting in the living room from Ben.
He managed to find a miniature letterpress at a junk store! And he found a reading list based on all of my most favorite books in the world (which are, in case you wanted to know, Dream When You’re Feeling Blue, Love in the Time of Cholera, Her Fearful Symmetry, and The Time Traveler’s Wife) that recommended the two books he ordered for me from Square Books.
And he found a perfume that smells like a new book, and the packaging is an actual book. The bottle rests down inside the pages. How cool is that?

And Gatsby!

And The Sopranos box set of all the seasons, but it’s not here yet. And something else that’s not here yet either that is yet to be revealed.

And an almond croissant from C’est La Vie, my favorite and the most divine treat on earth.

Who couldn’t love Big Ben?

Then I found a card in the mail from sweet Lora. Thank you so much for sending that, friend. I wish I were so thoughtful!

Then for dinner there was a roasted chicken with rosemary from our pots on the front porch:

And I made a caramel apple and pear pie with puff pastry crust:

And family came over for dinner:

Ben’s mama made me a plain butter cake without icing because she knows I only ever eat the cake, no icing. How sweet is that? No one missed the icing because the cake was so warm, and moist and fluffy. The green velvet was by her, too. I think she needs to get on with The Bake Shop as help during the busy season!

Lucy came too. She was drunk again.

But she had on some sweet crew socks.

Maybe it won’t be so bad to leave my 20s in a couple years. Right?
