#2,191 Family Day.

Over the weekend we made a plan with our family on the coast to spend the day together in Laurel since this weekend will be kind of rushed with lots of traveling. I ran over to the shop to wrap gifts…

And soon Sam, Lyn, Jared and Ellie arrived bearing gifts of homemade Chex mix and Sam’s from-scratch Scottish shortbread that was TO DIE FOR. Seriously, I’ve never tasted anything quite like it—so buttery, sweet, soft, and with just a dash of cayenne pepper and salt. We hit the town for lunch at Lee’s, then walked around to do some shopping at Southern Antiques, Sweet Daddy’s Pop Shop and the Knight Butcher and ended up leaving them all with a bag full of yummy stuff to snack on. At Southern Antiques, I finally got to see the finished display cabinet Ben made for Oldfield Fine Goods totally from scrap reclaimed wood. I’m so proud of my main squeeze!

The butcher shop has sold 2,000 pounds of their famous beef jerky since last week. LAST WEEK. They were out of it when we went by, but we got to try their first batch of healthy smoked beef sticks that reminded me of Slim Jims, which also made Ellie, our bacon loving niece, happy.

On our walk back to the shop it started to rain again. I can’t fully explain the humidity and nastiness of this weather today. Every surface had beads of sweat, the old sidewalks slick with rain and mildew. It was a huge relief to go back to our house and hang out, inside in the cool, dry of home.

Ellie and Lucy didn’t get to see each other, but thanks to the magic of iPhone, they could send videos and make a plan to see each other next time. Sweet, sweet girls.
