#39 Married life.
On the drive home from the grocery store tonight, we were listening to a new mix I made on my iPod that had some of our old favorite songs. We were pulling up to park when an especially good one, one of those you just can’t skip came on. We sat there with the car still running and I crawled into Ben’s lap and he held me tight while we listened to Let it Be Me by Ray Lamontagne. Ben told me, “I have never been so happy in my life.” I said, “Me too.” And I swear I’ve never meant anything more. This weekend, I re-watched Disney’s Up with my parents while Ben was away, and the ‘married life’ scene of the movie in the beginning was one of the most powerful things I have ever seen in a movie.
I know marriage has its share of cynics and jilted critics, but I choose to believe that it’s a precious and wonderful thing — something I want to keep practicing getting better at every single day.
