The Secret to Great Home Design
As an accountant by trade, I find it very difficult to articulate my style. I also find it very difficult to understand why I'm an accountant but, hey, that's another story for another day!
Here lately, I've been forced to really think about what drives my choices with home design and I just couldn't put my finger on it until a few days ago.
Growing up in south Mississippi we are all raised, as natural as if we are learning the ABC's, to be hospitable to others around us. Heck, Mississippi's tag line is "The Hospitality State"...we even have a pageant which I've written about here. It's a big deal and I've always loved the fact that we celebrate something as simple as being nice and welcoming to others. It's been a huge part of my life and as it turns out, continues to be.
Without even realizing it, I've approached home design with the same mentality: making a space comfortable and interesting. Welcoming. Collected. An experience.
If you design your space around this one concept, there is absolutely no way to lose: Only fill your home with things that mean something, feel good or serve a purpose....and I PROMISE, it's like magic - I can't explain how it happens actually.....it really all does come together and will look amazing. And if you come across something that accomplishes all 3 of those - jackpot!
Anyone that walks through your door, including yourself, will feel the love and warmth that your home provides and remember it forever. Because the best homes make you leave feeling better than when you came.
