The Home Town Look: Embrace Wallpaper

One differentiating element that makes Home Town different than any other renovation show is Erin's stunning design choices. How she incorporates the home owner's style, respects the history of each home yet creates a functional and inspiring space for the people that will live there. It's an adventure to see an old house with potential and good bones transform into a charming homestead filled with light, laughter, and new memories.

Every episode has a surprise design element, like a bright paint color in the bedroom, a hand-crafted wooden treasure made by Ben, but one surprising decor element that truly gives homes that Home Town Look is wallpaper.

Yes, you read that correctly. What once was an outdated, decor faux pas has become a statement piece and a work of art in its own. Erin has embraced this design element in its entirety and never backs away from the use of color.

Let's take a look and see how she has surprised us over and over again, shall we? Perhaps you'll become a believer in wallpaper, too.

On the most recent episode of this season of Home Town, Ben and Erin surprised parents-to-be, the Fennells, with a beautiful nursery for their little one. The couple were beyond surprise to find that their "housewarming gift" from Ben and Erin was far more than what they expected. Erin chose a gender neutral wallpaper for this special space, transforming this bedroom into a sweet and calming nursery.

Erin used Sparrow and Oak in Wicker from her premium Peel and Stick collection with York Wallcoverings. How lovely!

Do you remember the Keith House from Season Four? Tiffany inherited her mom's house when she passed away the year before, but it was far too small for her growing family. Ben and Erin came up with an ambitious plan for Tiffany and her husband Jonathan to be able to stay in Mom's house. They transformed this home into a dream come true and a legacy for generations to come.

Erin used Vincent Poppies Yellow (CY1514) by York to brighten this dining room into a formal (and fun) experience for her family to enjoy. How breathtaking!

Seth and Susan moved to Laurel from New York City. Seth is a surgeon, and he came back home to work at a Laurel hospital, and Susan became the new Director of Laurel Main Street during season five. Ben and Erin paid homage to their new house's original aesthetic elements and designed a fantastic family home with a glamorous kitchen and a custom primary suite. Erin also included an elegant, southern wallpaper to their dining room with complimentary painted wainscoting. What a warm welcome to the south!

Brooke is a local photographer and a close friend to Ben and Erin. With her  husband Robbie by her side, they set out to find a home for their new family to grow and make new memories. Ben and Erin create a beautiful transformation, turning a tired and in-cohesive house into a gorgeous home with a show-stopping family room and unexpectedly bold dining room. This wallpaper was original to the house and seemed outdated at first glance. Erin gave it a modern twist by adding charcoal black trim and wainscoting. (Her favorite!)

After being away for years, Cindy Myrick moved back to Laurel. She wanted a place big enough where her parents, kids, and grandkids can all gather together at once. Erin designed Cindy's dream home by using her favorite — blue and white in the French provincial style. She even gained help from a local artist, Adam Trest, to design custom wallpaper that captured her heart from the moment she saw it in her entry.

Jack and Sandy were looking for a historic home with a porch and plenty of green space in the country. Ben and Erin took them outside Laurel to the century-old Ellzey homestead with a wraparound porch, but the house needed extensive renovations. They transformed it into a modern, southern oasis with a jaw-dropping jaw-dropping entry complete with blue and white botanical wallpaper, crisp white trim, and bohemian chandelier.
