The Simoneau House
Welcome to the Simoneau house, a special place of comfort and healing for a young woman picking up the pieces of a life unexpected!
From Kendall:
How do you move forward when your world falls apart? You tell yourself to keep moving and you find a community that will rally behind you. For me, that community is Laurel, MS.
2017, was one month before our wedding and I was starting a new job at Laurel Mercantile. If you had told me then that one day I would move to Laurel I would have laughed you off. I honestly, had no idea that my life would be changed for the better when I started working there. Laurel was a happy accident and honestly it is the best thing that could have happened to me. The friends and community I have gained here are truly amazing. From the very beginning, the Mercantile family has welcomed me with open arms and they have helped with every step in this new journey I am on. I honestly do not know where I would be if it was not for them.
In 2019, my husband was killed in a car accident on his way from work. He was an ICU nurse and was extremely passionate about helping others in every aspect of his life. He was the most caring, kind-hearted person I’ve ever known. His loss was devastating to me, and I honestly didn’t know what to do or where to even begin to pick up the pieces. On the day of his accident, my Mercantile family were some of the first people at my house. They dropped everything just to be there with me. Even now, over a year later, they are still there helping me through this new life. It was because of them that I decided to buy a house in Laurel. They showed me how a city and a community can change your life.
When I first got the idea of moving to Laurel I knew I wanted to be downtown and close to friends. I also knew I wanted an older house with lots of character. I have always had a love for old homes because you rarely see that kind of craftsmanship and architectural features these days. When I saw the McCraney house with its beautiful windows, doors, and butler’s pantry I knew it was the one for me. The location was just icing on the cake because it was close friends on all sides.
I knew the house had the potential to be exactly what I needed to start this new chapter in my life, I just needed a little help from Erin and Ben to get it there. They did not disappoint! They went above and beyond anything I had imagined. They truly transformed my house, removing all the 70s decor and bringing back the original charm of the home. Every room is inviting and cozy and everything I could want in a home. The exterior is definitely up there in my favorite aspects of the home! I absolutely love the paint colors they chose for my house. I am not going to lie, I was a little skeptical when Erin first told me the main color of the house was going to be brown but now it is my favorite thing about the house. It is so eye-catching and warm that you just want to go in. Plus the stunning new front door pulls it all together!
The main bedroom is also one of my favorite rooms in the house. Everything from the colors, bedding, and decor is so calming and relaxing. It is exactly what I needed my bedroom to be like, a space I could come home to and feel at peace. Erin surprised me with a special quilt for this room and really got emotions going. It made me think of all the times Kurt and I would curl up on the couch under a quilt and be perfectly content. It was the sweetest gift I have ever received and something I will cherish forever. The writing on the quilt is in his handwriting and displays words from him that have meant so much to me in these days of healing.
I am honestly so grateful that I got the experience of letting Erin and Ben work on my new home. They took everything I said I liked and turned my house into a home that truly feels like me. Every room and space is an expression of who I am! I also want to thank you for letting me share my journey with all of you. Home Town was a great experience and everyone I worked with was amazing. Having my Mercantile family and the incredible community of Laurel on my side has made this time in my life so much sweeter amongst heartache and loss. I am forever grateful for all of the support!
